The Belgian climate is distinctly maritime and usually mild, and the city of Antwerp is no exception to this. Amidst the many days of sunny weather in Antwerp, rainy, grey days are also commonplace at times, whatever the season.

July and August generally feature the warmest climate in Antwerp and coincidentally the wettest, although precipitation levels are usually fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The sunniest weather is usually experienced during the months of May and August, although both April and also September can be alluring and extremely pleasant.

Antwerp's summer climate is often rather hot, and whilst temperatures average 23°C / 73°F, they can rise considerably higher to 30°C / 86°F on occasion, being cooled by gentle sea breezes. Temperatures begin to drop sharply towards the end of September and the autumnal weather brings slightly raised levels of rainfall and shorter days.

During the winter climate, from December to March, Antwerp is surprisingly mild and even during January, the coldest month, night-time temperatures often stay above freezing, with daytime highs of up to 10°C / 50°F being determined in no small part by the adjacent coastline of the North Sea. Snowy weather in Antwerp is extremely unusual and if it does fall, rarely lasts for more than a day or two at the most. Fog and heavy morning mists are far more likely.
